A club started by the youth of Searchmont for the youth of Searchmont! STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics opportunities to play and learn can be limited in a small town, therefore the idea is pool our resources and work together in collaborative effort.
The club currently has:
- A vex IQ robot kit - Vex is a robotics platform designed to transform the STEM learning paradigm for young students and their teachers (grades 4-8). When students have the ability to jump right in and snap robots together using this intuitive tool-less system, it can unlock a curiosity and a passion that will stay with them for life.
- Makeblock mbot - mBot is a STEAM education robot for beginners, that makes teaching and learning robot programming simple and fun. With just a screwdriver, the step by step instructions, and a study schedule, children can build a robot from scratch and experience the joys of hands-on creation.
- an ardunio - an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for anyone making interactive projects.
- a raspberry pi - is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.
- Various parts and tools
The group is open to all youth and will focus on STEAM topics hosted in a safe and welcoming learning environment. Some activities will be structured, such a building a specific robot or a home automation project, and other activities will be open ended to allow for creativity.
