Every school day for three-and-a-half decades, the children of Searchmont have stood in front of Searchmount Public School and waved to Algoma Central Railway's Agawa Canyon Tour Train.

Until this week.

On Wednesday, the school held its last day of classes, after which it closed for good, a victim of declining enrolment that left it with just a dozen students in recent weeks.

A reader sent us this photograph, taken from the train on Wednesday morning, of the school holding up its GOOD MORNING letters for the benefit of passengers, for the last time.

"The story was not covered," our reader noted. "How sad after 35 years of every school day, waving at the tour train."

Farewell, Searchmont P.S!
